RS232 to I2C converter circuit
It should be possible to
get the Sweex to send I2C signals from the GPIO lines but I have not managed
to do so yet.
Please email
me if you can demonstrate that!
In the meantime I have found the Ken Pergola RS232 to I2C converter circuit and software and have so far managed to connect the unit to a PC with Hyperterminal and see the initial screen of data generated when the unit boots. I have yet to test the I2C side.
To run it from the Sweex second RS232 port I will have to create a new Sweex firmware.bin with the speed set to 115200baud
I expect to connect TTL lines directly to the Sweex (without the two MAX232 converters) eventually (with a 5V to 3.3V interface)
The software and instructions are at http://members.localnet.com/~kmmp/ but since most references to these files are only to be found in the Google cache pages I suspect that the source may soon close so I have placed backup copies here - MISE.zip and MSBE.zip - use MISE.zip for this project.
Many thanks to Ken Pergola for making these free to use.Ken's email address is in the pdf file in the folder.
If you get this working and have a comment please email me
My rough sketch for the
hardware circuit - built on a project board

NB.
I record these notes here since I need to keep a record for my own use,
If they are of use to you too that is a bonus.
- just trying to give a little back!
